Lion screams in pain as its tail is bitten off by a pack of ferocious hyenas in an unfavorable fight for food.

In the photo taken in Masai Mara National Park, Kenya, a hungry hyena grabbed the tail of a lioness as she tried to protect the prey she had just hunted.

The lion roared in pain as the hyena gave him a painful bite with his sharp teeth. Immediately afterwards, the wildebeest carcass was torn apart by a pack of hyenas and jackals. The lion watched helplessly as the delicious prey was “taken over”.

The author of the photo, Alun James, said the lion was too inexperienced to defend its achievements against the hyenas: “The lion was pushed away when the hyenas approached.”

James said the lioness did not leave but just stood there, not knowing what to do next. The hyenas “party” in the helplessness of the lioness.

The old lioness was only able to protect part of her prize – a piece of antelope rib. However, its meal was not delicious because it was surrounded by wild buffalo herds looking at it with angry eyes.

After about 1 hour, a male lion appeared and relieved the female lion. At this time, the lioness can peacefully enjoy the remaining meal.
