The extraordinary scene of an eagle lifting a mountain goat five times its weight and dropping it from above to the ground

Never-before-seen video shows a golden eagle hooking its talons into the neck of a mountain goat five times its weight, lifting the animal in the air and dropping its prey from above to the ground in the Italian Alps.

Eagles are generally considered “lords of the sky” in nature because of their excellent hunting ability, taking advantage of their agility, speed and extremely sharp claws.

The camera crew was very surprised when they accidentally filmed a scene of a lone golden eagle hunting adult mountain goats estimated to weigh 5 times more. The video was filmed at the end of this summer and was recently posted on television by the BBC.

Normally, golden eagles only hunt young mountain goats or other small prey such as hares or grouse. The eagle swooped down and stuck its sharp claws into its prey’s neck.

Using its own strength, it pulls its prey off the cliff, holds it in the air, then drops it from above so that the prey dies completely.

“This is extraordinary behavior. The prey is 5 times heavier, very heavy. The eagle is very reckless in choosing such large prey to drop from the cliff,”
